Research focus

  • Translational research of optimization algorithms for the diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities.
  • Searching for new effective ways for cytogenetic research of amniotic cells.
  • Development of new technical approaches to increase the resolution of cytogenetic diagnostics.
  • Analysis of difficult cases of chromosomal pathology via molecular cytogenetic methods (in cooperation with the Laboratory of morphology and function of cellular structures of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS).

Main services

  • Karyotyping analysis of adults and children (analysis of the peripheral blood cells).
  • Prenatal chromosomal diagnostics – cordocentesis (analysis of the fetal blood cells), chorionic villus sampling (analysis of the chorionic villi cells), amniocentesis (analysis of the amniotic fluid cells) (amniocentesis is planned to start in 2014).
  • Diagnosis of fragile X syndrome (analysis of the peripheral blood cells).
  • Karyotype analysis of chorionic villi of interrupted pregnancy (analysis of the chorion cells obtained from abortions).

Main scientific results

  • A number of chromosomal abnormalities, including unique cases not previously described in the literature, have been revealed and described.
  • The model of the effective interaction between clinical and research laboratories has been proposed and implemented to carry out the detailed analysis of chromosomal abnormalities.
  • The method for the analysis of chorionic villi cells has been modified, that lead to significant increase of resolution and performance of cytogenetic diagnosis.

  • OLIMPUS CX31, OLIMPUS CX41, OLIMPUS SZ, ZEISS VERT A1 microscopes;
  • VideoTesT hardware-software system for visualization of morphological preparations, analysis and registration of optical and morphological indicators;
  • laminar flow hood; CO2 incubator; thermostats;
  • sterilizer;
  • clinical centrifuges;
  • fume hoods;
  • refrigerators; PH-meter; digital scales.
